The relocation of a planned bus stop on South Park Street will allow Madison to redevelop the corner at West Badger Road with a single six-story building instead of separate eight-story and five-story buildings, without losing any apartments or services, city staff said.

Updated plans for the former South Side bus transfer point released Friday include 26,000 square feet for Fire Station No. 6, a 32,000-square-foot facility for Public Health Madison and Dane County and about 221 lower-cost apartments, up from about 200 in earlier designs. The building would have 218 parking stalls, down
from about 300 in the two-building proposal.

The footprint is Z-shaped “so that no single facade of this building is an overpowering, large facade on any street,” Jacob Morrison of Madison architecture firm Potter Lawson told the Community Development Authority Board on Thursday.
