The Center for Veterans Issues and The Alexander Company have partnered to rehabilitate and expand Vets Place Central – a supportive housing facility in Milwaukee that the Center for Veterans Issues has owned and operated for nearly 30 years. Prior to rehabilitation and expansion, Vets Place Central provided housing for 74 veterans who struggle with homelessness, often doubled-up in rooms intended to house only one individual.

The redevelopment plans encompass a four-story addition and extensive renovations to the existing building so that veterans are afforded the privacy of their own room, as well as enhanced community spaces to continue to receive wrap-around supportive services. 68 rooms will remain supportive housing where veterans may reside for up to two years, and the remaining 13 rooms will provide long-term housing for veterans.

This partnership marks the team’s second endeavor in the service of veterans. The Center for Veterans Issues and The
Alexander Company have an ongoing partnership at the Milwaukee Soldiers Home on the grounds of the Milwaukee VA
Medical Center, where nine historic buildings are in various stages of restoration and rehabilitation by The Alexander
Company. The Center for Veterans Issues will have supportive service offices on the grounds to continue their mission of
serving veterans.

“We are proud to play a part in enhancing the lives of those who have served our country,” said Joe Alexander, President of The Alexander Company. “By combining our expertise in affordable housing solutions with Center for Veterans Issues’ dedication to supporting veterans, we are taking significant strides in addressing the challenges of homelessness within the veteran community.”

A strong group of local organizations are teaming up to make this project a reality. They include: Center for Veterans Issues, The Alexander Company, Kelly Construction & Design, Galbraith Carnahan Architects, National Equity Fund and BMO Bank
