Accounts Payable Specialist

The Alexander Company has an opening for an Accounts Payable Specialist.

 

Description

The Accounts Payable Specialist performs accounting and clerical tasks related to the effective maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions. This position works collectively with the accounting team and performs other duties as required to support the accounting department. The Accounts Payable Specialist will report to the Accounting Manager. The position entails 40 hours per week with work from home (hybrid) opportunities possible after training.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable items including invoices, expense reports, check requests, and credit card statements
  • Review items for proper approvals, sales/use tax and documentation
  • Communicate with vendors and co-workers, inside and outside of the department, to resolve differences and obtain all required documentation
  • Code payables in accounting software (entity, account)
  • Investigate and resolve problems associated with vendors, invoices, supporting documentation, and payments
  • File, maintain, and distribute accounting documents, records, and reports
  • Perform other accounting department functions as back-up for the accounting staff
  • Contribute and research opportunities to make more transactions electronic

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting preferred
  • Accounts payable or general accounting experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to change and willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to follow-up on pending issues, work with multiple entities, and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of individuals
  • Knowledge of RealPage Accounting a major advantage
